Gibson Desert Area Council operates a range of community facilities available for hire including halls, sports venues, and recreational spaces.

Community Halls

Central Community Hall

Location: 15 Todd Street, Gibson Desert
Capacity: 200 people (seated), 300 (standing)
Size: 450 m²

Sports Facilities

Gibson Desert Recreation Center

Location: 25 Sadadeen Road, Gibson Desert
Facilities: Indoor stadium, gymnasium, meeting rooms

  • Change rooms and showers

Casual Hire Rates (per hour):

  • Full court: $85
  • Half court: $45
  • Meeting room: $35

Book Sports Facility

Outdoor Sports Fields

Council manages several sports fields and ovals for football, cricket, soccer, and other sports.

Locations:

  • Traeger Park - AFL oval
  • Anzac Oval - Cricket and football
  • Ross Park - Soccer fields
  • Braitling Oval - Multi-sport

Seasonal Hire (Winter/Summer):

  • Full season: $2,500
  • Per game: $150
  • Training only: $75 per session

All bookings include use of change rooms and basic amenities.

Meeting & Function Rooms

Council Chambers

Capacity: 50 people
Rate: $100/hour

Formal meeting space with A/V equipment

Library Meeting Room

Capacity: 20 people
Rate: $40/hour

Quiet meeting space, WiFi included

Outdoor BBQ Areas

Capacity: Varies
Rate: FREE (permit required)

Various parks, first-come first-served

How to Book

  1. Check availability on our online booking system
  2. Complete the facility hire application form
  3. Submit form with bond payment (refundable)
  4. Receive booking confirmation via email
  5. Pay balance 7 days before hire date

Booking Requirements

  • Minimum 14 days notice for bookings
  • Bond required ($200-$500 depending on venue)
  • Public liability insurance for large events ($10M minimum)
  • Liquor license if serving alcohol
  • Adherence to COVID-safe practices when applicable

Conditions of Hire

  • Facilities must be left clean and tidy
  • Damage to facilities may result in bond forfeiture
  • Noise restrictions apply after 10:00 PM
  • No smoking inside buildings
  • Maximum capacity must not be exceeded
  • Keys must be returned within 24 hours

Discounts Available

Registered community groups and not-for-profit organizations receive 50% discount on hire fees. To apply:

  • Provide proof of incorporation or registration
  • Submit community group application form
  • Renew annually

Cancellation Policy

  • More than 30 days notice: Full refund
  • 15-30 days notice: 50% refund
  • Less than 15 days: No refund
  • Weather-related cancellations: Case by case basis
