Gibson Desert Area Council operates two modern library facilities providing access to books, digital resources, technology, and community programs for all ages.

Library Services

Membership

Library membership is FREE for all Gibson Desert residents. Bring proof of address to sign up:

  • Utility bill or rates notice
  • Driver's license or ID with local address
  • Bank statement

Children under 16 require a parent or guardian signature.

Borrowing

With your library card, you can borrow:

  • Books: Up to 20 items for 3 weeks
  • DVDs: Up to 5 items for 1 week
  • Audiobooks: Up to 5 items for 3 weeks
  • Magazines: Up to 5 current issues for 1 week

Items can be renewed up to 3 times online or by phone, unless reserved by another member.

Digital Library

Access thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, and newspapers from home:

  • eBook and audiobook platforms (BorrowBox, OverDrive)
  • Digital magazines and newspapers (PressReader)
  • Online learning courses (LinkedIn Learning)
  • Research databases and academic journals

Access digital resources 24/7 with your library card number.

Technology & Internet

  • Free WiFi throughout the library
  • Public computers (2 hours per day free)
  • Printing, scanning, and photocopying (small fee)
  • iPads and tablets for in-library use
  • Tech help sessions (bookings required)

Children's Programs

  • Storytime: Wednesdays & Saturdays, 10:30 AM (ages 0-5)
  • School Holiday Programs: Activities during school breaks
  • LEGO Club: First Saturday of the month, 2:00 PM
  • Baby Rhyme Time: Thursdays, 9:30 AM (ages 0-2)

Adult Programs

  • Book Club: Third Wednesday of the month, 6:00 PM
  • Author Talks: Quarterly events with local and visiting authors
  • Digital Skills Workshops: Monthly sessions on various topics
  • Job Search Assistance: By appointment
